All right, so I feel kind of bad because I read this because a person in my book club suggested it and I am giving it only one star! But, honestly, I did not like this book very much. From the very beginning, the story was hard for me to get into. I'm not really into horses and the narrator is a 12 year-old-girl who lives on a ranch in Colorado with her somewhat sane dad and crazy, depressed mother. The thing is, I could relate to the problems in the book quite well -- I have a crazy, depressed parent (father) and a mother that tries her hardest to make everything right. However, I could not really relate to the specific characters in this novel because they all seemed dull and lifeless, especially Alice, the narrator.

I don't really have anything good to say about this book. I can kind of see why some people would like it and I tried really hard to appreciate it for what it was but the bottom line for me was that I couldn't relate to the characters and that ruined it all for me.

Sonia Reppe Maybe you expected too much because of my five star rating. It's cool that you tried my recommendation, at least.
