Everyone who reads this, loves it, so I was finally able to read this one. Now I've gotbooks 2 and 3 to catch up! Mary Quinn is part of the Agency, a group that believes (contrary to popular thought in 1858 England) that women should have more control over their lives, and not be treated as possessions or limited in their choice of life. She is training as an agent, and her first assignment is to be a lady's companion, while she tries to find information about the suspicious business deals of the master of the house. Intrigue, excellent characters, some romantic tension, and a period setting. Very rewarding.
