When a poet writes a novel! Dickey did it. I hesitate to say this because of the connotations the word has (at least for me), but the book is beautiful - I don't mean flowery or pretentious. It is beautifully written. It reads quickly, and the story propels you right along. The author is great at creating a mood, a scene, a situation. suspense. Eg, the carnival, the molestation in London, the midnight intruder/dream, the medium. The dialog is natural and realistic. Some of it is funny. The writing is littered with little turns of phrase that are neat and fun to read. And the surprises never let up til the last page. Frankly I didn't like the sex. Oh boy! But that's just me. And I'm gay anyway. A perfect little closed circle of a book!
