At a Dallas Cowboys football game, a squadron of infantry men is honored for heroism in Iraq. The men of Bravo are passed among rich and powerful Texans like 'everybody's favorite bong.' War's realities (for the soldiers) and fantasies (for the civilians) are illuminated over the course of a single day. Patriotism is tangled with consumerism, combat confused with entertainment and supporting the troops is nothing but a business decision. It all culminates in a post-traumatic stress inducing half-time show. By the end of the day, Bravo wants to get back to the war, 'where it's safe.' A crazy good book.
