Another typical thriller from Michael Crichton involving some kind of technology gone wrong. In this case it's a machine to shrink humans down to incredibly small sizes and after this happens to a group of research students, the villain of the story dumps them out in the wilds of Hawaii and leaves them to fend for themselves - suddenly those seemingly-benign little insects become deadly adversaries in their fight for survival. It's no great spoiler to reveal that members of this group get killed off in varying ways until there are only so many of them left.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and there were a few good twists along the way.
