This is the novel where the decline sets in, according to my humble opinion. Political intrigue was never the high point of Clarke's work (which is the reason why, even in the sharpest days of cold war, his depiction of US-USSR bonhomie in space appeared realistic), and in this novel all the mention of South Africa and other stuff bogged it down. Nevertheless, enjoyable read.
