Bleakly beautiful. A novel based on the real-life events of the last execution to take place in Iceland, the case of Agnes Magnúsdóttir. The story is narrated by Agnes herself as well as through documents and the eyes of her priest and the family members who served as her jailers/caretakers.

The story was rich with contrasts, misunderstandings, and misinterpretations and heartbreaking in the helpless, hopeless feeling that washed over the whole miserable situation.

The author called this novel her "dark love letter to Iceland" and that feels like a very good descriptive. Not an easy or light read, but the kind of book that will leave you thinking for a good, long while.
