Parts of this book was fabulous and the next page couldn't come soon enough. However, other parts seemed jerky and disconnected. Perhaps that was intended, given the minds of some of the characters.
A story of the old days, when those who seemed mentally deficient for some reason were locked away and forgotten, either by family or authorities. Can you imagine living where 6 or more people shared one toothbrush for example.
A time when the death were considered also to be dumb, and that is debunked for sure in the story. Through it all runs a thread of what will be done in the name of love. An unusual topic but one that needs talking about. It was not an easy read, and I'm not sure if I would read other books by Rachel Simon or not.
