I was surprised at how much I liked this book. The characters are a lot of fun and there are several plot twists that keep it interesting (although I saw some coming from a mile away). It's hard to figure out the time period, sort of middle ages with modern elements and a whole lot of Magyk.

I liked the use of bold words and Capital Letters To Mean Important Things. They were often slightly goofy which reminded me of Winnie the Pooh gone bad.

The bad guys are bad, but not terrifying. It's tense, but not overpowering. No bad words or immoral situations. I think this series would be great for middle school on up, and as an adult I enjoyed it a lot, too.
