it was amazing

An evocative and atmospheric gothic tale - or, more accurately, tale of tales, as well as a musing on the importance of bearing witness. This had sat on my shelf for ages because I enjoyed The Essex Serpent and thought it was a tough act to follow, but this is just as good - if not better for the bolder vision and more ambitious scope.
