it was amazing

Winner of both the pulitzer and Nobel prize, Beloved is a haunting, mournful and emotionally searing piece of literature. Set in rural Ohio a few years after the end of the civil war, the book draws you in with its superb prose and chilling subject matter. The fictional account centers on a runaway slave named Sethe and the lengths she will go to in order to protect her family from the horrors of physical and spiritual bondage.

Toni Morrison paints a wonderful portrait of the human wreckage that was left strewn about America in the wake of slavery's end. The tale leaves you wondering: Is there is any depth to which humanity will not sink in its attempt to control the world and are there any limits to what one will do to protect their own from such wanton depravity?

Highly recommended.
