Naked in Death (In Death #1)

Reading this was way way out of my comfort zone of usual reads and...I think that was a big reason why I enjoyed it too. Just something different! I've watched a lot of crimey/murdery shows but never actually read a book like it. Am doing something DIFFERENT HERE. Also I liked how it's set in 2058, the futuristic differences are subtle but cool, and totally terrifying because I suppose 2058 isn't that far away. [goes away to die quietly]
Basically we follow Eve Dallas who is a badass detective/cop and is on a case for the murder of several sex workers and a clever serial killer. I CALLED THE MURDERER, but not the final twist. Eve has a lot of baggage that she isn't unpacking, but I am surprised we got all her backstory here?! Aren't there like 50 books?? Thought it would've drawn more things out. The romance with Roarke was steamy and he's very suave and arrogant, but I felt he was at least somewhat still polite. I'm interested to find out his backstory tbh although he's probably a criminal and Eve will have to arrest him (again) and it will be all very angsty. 😌Me: *predicts the next 10 books at least* ANYWAY. I may read more in this series yet.
I did find the writing too impersonal? Compared to the styles I'm used to. But it was easy to read, accessible, intriguing, and nicely-paced. Also the murder scenes are gnarlyyy.
I finally read a book by Nora Roberts!!! The famous prolific (MACHINE?!?! how does she have so many books??!?!) writer!!!
