I made it 20% of the way through, but the story was neither engaging nor able to keep my attention. Usually, I cannot stand to not finish a book, but I just could not bring myself to keep reading this one.

Maureen I fully understand and that is the flaw of the book. With careful editing. That would not be a problem. If you act return to the book, it does becomes interesting about a third of the way through. The French resistance and how the families were sheltered adoring this time period is quite interesting. Rad Sarah's Key if you this setting.
