it was amazing
bookshelves: religion

This little book is deceiving. While you could easily finish it in a few days, it's something to take more time with. I wish I'd started it at the start of Advent, and journeyed through the words of the Holy Fathers through the season and Christmas. But it was equally inspiring to read during that lapse of time between Christmas Day and New Year's.

It contains excerpts of homilies relevant to the season, written by various popes through history. They bring tidings of peace and hope; they also reveal something of the world at the time, whether it's the fifth or twentieth century. Though different wars were fought, and cultures changed, the root of humanity hasn’t changed. Neither has the Church's teachings.

There's not enough material for a "daily reading" format, but it's a good one to pick up throughout the season. A worthy book as my first of 2020!
