This was the first book I finished reading after my son was born - and it took me ages!

"Arcadia" begins in the 60s, on a community called Arcadia, led by a charismatic man called Handy. We see Arcadia through the eyes of Bit, a five year old, and then in later years when Bit is a teenager, and Arcadia is coming to an end. Then the story moves to Bit's adult life, exploring his relationship with his daughter, his memories of childhood and his caring for his mother after she falls ill.

It's a gentle, almost slow narrative, but I really enjoyed it the style and flow of it, and Bit's peaceful thoughtful narrative, the way he comes to terms with his past.
