it was amazing
bookshelves: horror

Jimmy the Freak is a fast-paced, intense, and heartwarming read with endearing characters. Jimmy himself is lovable, but except for a few key POV shifts, the third-person persona narrator generally sticks closest with Mike, Jimmy's bodyguard. Mike is a bad man trying to do the right thing, but his own flaws lead to mistakes and obstacles, and I kept turning the pages in hopes of relieving the escalating tension as Mike and Jimmy stumble forward barely one step ahead of their pursuers. I wasn't always sure where the story was heading, but it stayed true to the characters throughout, leading to an incredible and emotional ending and denouement.
