The first half of the book was fun (though the crime was unsatisfactorily unresolved) but as Charles develops into a wishy-washy mother's boy, I feel rather sorry for Georgiana. I wish she made him beg a bit before accepting him back and just because she had a disastrous London season 10 years ago, you'd think she'd have grown some backbone in the decade since.

Ten years ago, maypole Georgiana danced pity dances with charming Charles. Now, due to a staged fire and robbery at an inn, they meet again. Charles, drunk, thinking the now beautiful Georgiana is married, consummates their relationship. Georgiana becomes pregnant, since unmarried, retires to the country and fakes widowhood. Charles, who cannot forget Georgiana, sees her again, falls in love, but cannot accept that she is a pregnant widow, leaves, returns, leaves, returns, proposes, finally convinces her to marry. Truth revealed, upset she lied, Charles leaves again, comes back when Georgiana delivers, apologizes, trusts her, vows again to stay forever
