My first Smiley that doesn't revolve around power of place.
And that is presumably because our good friend, Dave, doesn't know where he is.
And we are led into this world of an unaware man.
The charitable read must be: ooh look, Smiley has given us the perspective, from her trademark first person narrative, of this poor dude. What a triumph of writing.

But if we are to stand above dude, with the wisdom of a knowing woman, what kind of insight do we expect dude to have for the reader? And are we congratulating ourselves?
