Death’s Avatar takes us with Elise and James on their mission to stop the apocalypse. An ancient clock that counts the hours to midnight and the worlds end has been activated, each hour bringing it’s own horrors — mind you the hours are not literal.

I loved to read about what Elise and James were doing before the happenings in Death’s Hand and what eventually lead to their retirement. The story flow is pleasant and it’s guaranteed Reine quality. We also get a small peek to another kopis and aspis pair.

Even though this is a prequel to Death’s Hand, it’s optimal to read it after you’ve read the first book — you’ll lose some of the mystery if you start with this one. But if you’re unsure whether you would like the series or not (you will, if you like urban fantasies), by all means, do try out this freebie first. You’ll love it.
