With the determination of a true mountaineer, Greg Mortenson sets out to fulfill a promise. How difficult could it be to build a school at the base of K2 in Pakistan. After all, this was 1993, pre-9/11. Mortenson conquered barriers of culture,
language, religion in the harshest environment and with limited funds. He not only succeeded in building one school, but many. Several things distinguish Greg. His skills and ability to fund rise, facilitate cooperation and survive among terrorists. All are truly remarkable. But, here's the take home message: "the enemy is ignorance." He completely gets it. Education can lead people out of ignorance and poverty. It's more effective than war and a whole lot cheaper.
