Rose's mom had beaten cancer once, but it came back virulently and she died after a a very short and painful time. Rose is struggling to cope while Dad drinks to forget and older brother Jim is away at college. Just after Mom died, Rose found the Survival Kit that her mother had made for her, full of items to help her heal and move on. Rose also finds solace in a budding friendship with Will whose father died of cancer a few years before.

A really sweet, touching story. I couldn't put it down. Excellent read-alike for Sarah Dessen fans. My only complaint is that everything wrapped up just a little bit too neatly.
