it was amazing

Stunning, beautiful, raucous, over-the-top, and perfect. The prose is laid on with the thickness and delicacy of a Matisse palette knife, and the result is bright, edgy, powerful and real. You feel trapped in Griffin's head as his heart unspools for his best friend, his heartbeat, the guy who makes him just frickin' nuts. Underneath the inarticulate, loud, crude language and physicality of Dante (and Griffin for that matter) you feel the tenderness and vulnerability of two men who sincerely believe in love with the hopelessness and balls-out sincerity of any poetry-and-roses romantic. The sex is hot, the pain is real, the setting is so well drawn you can reach out and touch it and hear the Brooklyn accents in your ear. Amazing. Worth every word of praise aimed in its direction.

julio "Raucous" is a great way of putting it, but I also found that Suede also has the skill to lay down some moments of surprising beauty and emotion, near enough to poetry as makes no difference. I'm looking forward to reading more from him, as I'm dead certain his voice will only get better and better.
