May's writing is a little thick; the book is set in China and almost every time he starts a new scene, he spends at least a paragraph or two describing the area in excruciating detail. Almost as if he needed to prove that he has been there. Other than that, it's a fairly interesting detective novel and I came across the funniest sentence I've read in a long time: "Mei-Ling flashed her ID, and the woman looked as if an electric current had just passed through her rectum."
