I do love Lionel Shriver's writing as her prose is second to none. The reason for 3 stars instead of 4 is that i found the book difficult to read due to the unrelenting self distraction of the main character. Once Ms. Shriver sets the course of events in action and heading towards their final conclusion she never lets up; in fact with each subsequent step Willy becomes more distractive to herself and those around her. I am sure that these people exist in real life but their attitudes are so antithetical to my "life philosophy" that when i see them in print i find myself become disgusted and angry with their behavior as opposed to sympathetic. I felt the same way about the characters in "The Corrections."
