Read in August, 2012

The perfect amount of just enough literary married with suspense, interesting science, contrasting cultures, and poignancy, set in modern times in Minnesota and the Brazilian Amazon jungle. First line: "The news of Anders Eckman's death came by way of Aerogram, a piece of bright blue airmail paper that served as both the stationery and, when folded over and sealed along the edges, the envelope."
Dr. Marina Singh is a researcher at a big pharmaceutical company who travels to the Amazon to learn what has happened to Anders, and what has been happening with the mysterious research project in the Amazon run by Marina's former professor, the larger than life and uncommunicative Dr. Annick Swenson. This is a fabulous summer read.
