Many times adversity kick starts someone's drive, and that seems to be what happened with Sandra Lee. I never watched any of her programs or tried any of her cookbooks. Although she tells the story of her early life, she seems to gloss over some of the truly rough stuff. She explains having to take responsibility for her younger siblings but goes into little detail. How she managed that and still managed to pay for the uniform and perform on her high school's pom-pom team is not explained at all. Still it is interesting to read, and this woman is so focused on her projects that all personal relationships move to the back of the bus, except for those with her brothers and sisters. Her relationship with her grandmother is given the detail I would have appreciated to have had with the rest of her life.
