Another classic novel that I had always wanted to read.
It's a classic, and probably one of the first, great white hunter in Africa genre. Alan Quatermain is the main protagonist and his name may be familiar to many from other, more recent, sources. His original character as written here may be quite a bit different to what most people would expect. The original Quatermain is a quiet reserved character and not the fighting rabble rousing hero usually associated with the name.
Today this novel may seem very dated. It's also very politically incorrect in parts. But it's a product that reflects it's time and should always be taken as such. Any 'alterations' for the sake of PC is just plain wrong in my opinion and books should be read as originally written.
