Deep Storm, falls squarely into the category of science fiction, which is not a genre that generally appeals to me. Every time I pick up a sci-fi book (always by accident), moreover, it seems I find myself at the bottom of the sea (or below). This is not an environment I enjoy visiting, even vicariously. Thus, when one scene in the middle of the book took place in the wilds of northern Scotland, I was greatly relieved to be above ground for a brief respite.

Despite the fact that it wasn't really my cup of tea, however, I finished the book--a tribute to the author's ability to write credible characters and skillfully manipulate suspense.
