liked it

It took to long to get going and the ending, while it made sense, was not satisfying. (I think I was expecting something twistier a la The Lottery.) Main characters were introduced too late. It wasn't scary, although did make me feel uncomfortable. Perhaps that was the intent, but I believe it had more to do with the empathy I felt for Eleanor than the descriptions of Hill House itself, which seemed more akin to the Mystery Spot tourist trap than anything else.

After giving this 2 stars I went back and changed it to 3. Not because I liked the book any better, but I think there's a lot going on here literarily (not a word, but I have an English degree and therefore I'm allowed to make words up). For one, I read a QandA here on Goodreads that mentioned repressed lesbian sexuality, and I saw so much of that in this book I can't not mention it.
