What a book! It's a long saga, a story of friendship and love and loyalty and murder and anger and revenge. Despite its length, this is a fast, engrossing read. In its simplicity it's about a mute boy and his dog, but it is MUCH MORE than this. It's a coming of age story, and the author uses techniques (dog narrates a few chapters for instance) that could have made the book cliched/schmaltzy, but it didn't at all. I think teens and adults will enjoy this book. I am amazed that this is a first novel because it is written so well. This is destined to be a classic.

Four months after I read this book, I read some reviews. Duh! I didn't realize that this is a retelling of Hamlet. Now, I see it perfectly!
