it was ok

This book was overall okay. I plan to read the second in the series, but first I want to write everything I didn't like about it. Almost all of the first half of the book was Brooke and Ben going on a wild chase with the slave runners that ended without climax. Nonetheless, it was still interesting to read what happened to them, but towards the end when they hit the city was a little over the top. A wild goose chase filled with near death and a lot of 360s.
Second, I feel the character development was a little stale. I think the author wasn't quite sure what personality he was going for with Bree, although it was strong, but with Ben and Brooke there wasn't much in there. I knew from the beginning that there was going to be a bit of a love triangle and it wasn't very interesting. Still, I found it touching how far the two kids went to save their little siblings and I feel that despite the flaws, this book was driven by something that pulled it forward.
