really liked it
bookshelves: older-children, chapter-book, aimed-at-girls, book-to-movie

Scout Finch and her brother, Jem, live with their lawyer father, Atticus, in 1930's Alabama. The town mystery-man/recluse, Boo Radley, turns out to be a hero. This book is for older children. Racism runs rampant in this setting and mature themes are discussed in the trial of a black man.
I think this would be a good book to use to introduce the civil rights movement. I would show it to older grades because of the prejudices and language.
