I was eager to read this given my enjoyment of the earlier books in the series. Unfortunately, I'm finding the stories less engaging and rewarding. This one is more about a murder mystery than the (to me) more interesting questions about why The Library exists and the ethical issues involved stealing/saving books from alternate worlds. I'm starting to think that the author Genevieve Cogman will never really get around to those subjects, since the books are very in-the-moment and focused on action, not reflection. There's always a danger and Irene is always in the middle of it. It's fun to watch her work her way to solutions, but I want more depth. (This story barely features books at all - just one book that we never see and ends up being not very important.) This book did come from an interesting perspective in casting the Fae as more sympathetic than, for example, in The Masked City (book 2).
