4.5 stars:

I really enjoyed the first 2 volumes of this story, but I feel like this is when things have really hit their stride. Things start to really tie together here, the new keys are crazy cool, the character development has really taken some cool turns, and the whole story just got a lot darker. Okay, Crown of Shadows implies that, but...well, whatever.

I'm a fan of the two Joe Hill novels I've read, and I could see his style in the prior volumes, but this volume just SCREAMS Hill to me. Twisted and dark, but with humor and heart. This is elevated by Rodriguez's artistry -- he really captures the emotion behind Hill's words. There are also some subtle details that are important and really fun to catch.

Wonderful stuff, really. I can't wait to see what happens next!
