really liked it
bookshelves: mystery-and-thrillers

They say timing is everything. I read this book on a vacation, a second honeymoon actually, in a scenic location. While my spirit was unwinding due to the beautiful waterfalls, trees in bud, and wild flowers, I was reading about a man who is trying to find a serial killer. I would recommend this on a dark wintry day, not a day full of promise of spring's arrival. It took me 3 1/2 days to read it, because I had to keep putting it down for wrecking my mood.

But this is a great story. The character development was great. I felt as if I knew the protagonist, Charlie Parker, quite well. The story opens up with a gruesome, diabolical killing that is very personal to him. While trying to figure out who could be twisted enough to think of this and then carry it out, several other murders happen. In the end it turns out to be someone whom I never suspected, but could then pick up the gossamer strings of the plot. Really well-written.
