it was amazing

My favorite fiction book of the year. Simply amazing. I had the privilege of meeting Hoffman at the MJCCA Book Festival in November. She's just as charming and personable as you'd want - and she's a knitter (in my world, that makes her practically perfect!)

Hoffman says she's never read a Holocaust novel, but was drawn to write one to "find light" in response to the "dark time" of 2016. I've read many Holocaust novels and I learned something new about the French resistance in this one (Hoffman did extensive research in France).

I loved the way Hoffman used magical realism (even creating a female golem) to explore the real emotional aspects of love, loss and survivorship.
