CHRISTMAS IN WINTER VALLEY follows the Maverick Ranch as it nears the holiday. I would categorize this as women's fiction rather than romance, because the family and their own stories are separate tales without a heavy dose of romances. Although many characters do pair up, it felt very secondary to the plot.

The three main characters are the men, Elliott, Cooper, and Tye. Elliott left school to come back and help on the ranch when his father died. He also left behind the love of his life, who was unwilling to follow him- but has now shown up in the form of the hired accountant. As they work together on the books, they also work to resolve the feelings they still carry from the way things ended.

Cooper likes to be alone and looks forward to the solitude of going to the cabin and wrestling the wild horses before the vet comes to help take care of them. When he arrives at the cabin, he is surprised to find a boy there, Tatum, who he ends up taking care of while they are stuck there. When he is injured, he also meets the new vet who is rather attractive and smart. His story is intertwined with Tatum's, who really stole the book for me.

Tye received his inheritance from his jailed grandfather after his death. It came in the form of a journal with pictures and the message to go find the gift he has left for him. The quest takes him to the Maverick ranch, where he takes a position while following the clues. The best thing he finds is the company of the cook, Dani- as long as her two grown sons don't come between them.

Following several characters and storylines make this plot move fast. Full of charm and a light touch of romance, this was an engaging read that is made for the holidays. Recommend for fans of Thomas's works.
