What Makes Us is a story of growth for these young adults facing very real social issues that society is faced with every day. Told from the young minds of these characters, it can also be viewed as a coming-of-age story where these teens are faced with the struggle of identity. This story has a very compelling view on the very complex dynamics of family of any ethinicity, religion, and/or culture...etc., etc. In particular, readers will get a view of the complexities of these jewish teens struggling to identify who they are in today's society with the social issues they are faced with in their lives. With its well-written characters and settings, What Makes Us is a vivid and convincing coming-of-age drama told in various points of views.

What Makes Us is a very compelling story of identity and social issues and how these characters dealt with it within themselves and others. A story with a very profound and potent social message for the minds of the youths of today. I would also say that What Makes Us does not just focus on the young minds only, but also, it tells of the adults that affects their lives as well.
