As a future teacher, I absolutely adore this story. It starts out with a class who is constantly misbehaving and disrespecting their teacher. One day their teacher, Miss Nelson, is absent from class. They thought that this was a wonderful day because they could really misbehave without any punishment. However, their substitute teacher was mean and strict to them and would not allow them to misbehave at all. They started to miss Miss Nelson and wished they had not been so rowdy and rude to their nice and understanding teacher. The book takes you through the journey of the class and how they desperately try to find their teacher. They worry that they will be forever stuck with the mean substitute teacher. In the end, Miss Nelson returns to the classroom and her class is thrilled to see her. They sit quietly as Miss Nelson reads to them, listens to her instructions, and overall no longer misbehaves. The mystery remains, where did Miss Nelson go? ;)
