This is a very good, old-fashioned Batman story. The art is done in a stark and simple noir style, with non-intrusive coloring that matches the story quite well. Set early in Batman's career, it tells the story of Harvey Dent becoming Two-Face. I think they tried a little too hard to cameo too many famous Batman villians, but other than that my only complaint is that the re-introducing of all of the characters for each chapter was a bit distracting. I understand they needed to do that for each monthly comic installment, but editing out some of that material for the boook edition would have been beneficial. Catwoman is especially well-done, as are the Gordons. The Mafia families are a little over-the-top; The Sopranos must have been popular that year. I liked the little twist ending, too, even though I've read some reviews panning it. Overall, it's a fine graphic novel.
