I always have mixed feelings about Elizabeth George. Robin, of Aunt Agatha's mystery bookshop in Ann Arbor, loves her. She has well-defined characters and really gets into the way they tick. I liked her exploration of Barbara Havers' unhealthy thought patterns. I do not, however, like her writing style. Her descriptions can be purple and her sidebars often have logical errors and sentences that are non sequitur, but that she think clearly follow. Also, there are a lot of unhealthy attitudes towards sex in her books, and not just by the sexual criminals. Still, her characterizations have made her an extraordinarily popular author.
