Charlotte's Web still entertains me and touches me the way it always has. It’s simple and it’s written for children, yes, but there are some significant themes behind the tale; like the cycle of life and death and an individual’s right to dictate the timing of those things for another.

I think the strongest message, however, can be found in the way the humans in the story regard the animals as inferior, despite the fact that they are intelligent creatures that are struggling with the same problems that many humans face.

But maybe that’s just my literature class speaking. It could just be a sweet fairytale about friendship.

I'm biased when it comes to Charlotte's Web, for sentimental reasons, but I've rated it nonetheless.

3.5 stars.
