An anthology of ghost stories written by great authors of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The list of authors is impressive (Hawthorne, Poe, Dickens, Wharton, Twain). However, I feel it's a misnomer to call them tales of horror and suspense because the stories fell short in that area. Only once did I get goosebumps.

The Gray Champion, page 10: The whole scene was a picture of the condition of New-England, and its moral, the deformity of any government that does not grow out of the nature of things and the character of the people.
