(March) I wanted to love this book, but I didn't. I found it boring in parts, and got tired of every time something happened it was negative, usually pertaining to the horrid treatment of slaves. More than that, though, I was completely disgusted with what Brooks did to the March family. She turned Marmee into a harridan, a woman who slept w/a man she was not married to (had never even dated)outside, someone who was angry and seemed to lose control more often than not. Papa March, who in Little Women was a kind beloved father and husband, is now seen as a dreamer, head in the clouds, not understanding his wife, careless w/his family's well-being, a very weak man. I didn't like Brooks' treatment of these characters who were not hers to twist and ruin. I would have liked this book better if it had just been about just people, not beloved literary characters. CnC rating: 3.5* BC rating: 3.75*
