Situates the Book of Revelation in the time it was written and into the Hebrew prophetic tradition, compares it with other books of revelation and secret knowledge found at Nag Hammadi, and shows how it was used, first against the Roman Empire and finally against Christians who refused the direct administrative and ideological control of the Church-Imperial authorities, and because of this final use, why it was included in the New Testament. I always find it very depressing to read about the rise of orthodox Christianity, watching the forces of conformity, church power, censorship, and persecution dominate by fair means or foul. What a tragedy it was!
