Recommended by a friend on a mailing list, this sounded interesting. I'd previously enjoyed well enough Kearsley's The Rose Garden (recommended by another mailing list friend. Love book discussions from my friends!)

Carrie is an author researching her next novel, set in the Jacobite period, in a seaside cottage in Scotland. What a wonderful excuse for a dual time period romance. Some slight paranormal influences actually seemed believable to me - something that I never expected to say! The historical romance was believable, the modern day one not so much. All in all, though, a fun confection of escapism.

I'm glad that my friend steered me to it.
