I wanted some comfort reading this weekend, so I did a quick re-read of this - or more precisely, I thumbed through Star Wars, skipped most of Empire, then read Jedi. I enjoy Alan Dean Foster's book (yeah, it says Lucas, but he didn't write it), but it's James Kahn's Jedi that I truly love. (In fact, I think I'll give it a separate review to be fair to the others.) This trilogy is hampered by the Empire novelization, which in my opinion is the weakest of the three despite being the best movie; it's basically the script in prose form, which doesn't do much for me. Star Wars is better written, and it's got all those interesting bits of canon and lore that fans like me love; and Jedi is the closest to my heart for several reasons. I'll give an emotional rating of 4 for Star Wars, 2.5 for Empire, and 5 for Jedi.
