really liked it

When a bi-polar, single, on welfare English mum is more interested in getting a new tattoo than caring for her two daughters, close to adolescence, the reader gets the picture very clearly--the daughters have been the responsible ones looking after their mother to the best of their abilities. The protagonist and younger daughter,Dolphin, deals with bullying issues at school and the older sister, Star, thinks she has found a way out of this life style now that their mother has found Star's father and he wants a relationship with the daughter he never knew. This leaves Dolphin with complicated issues to try and solve, especially when her mother's behavior becomes worse. Although the issues are tough, there is hope for Dolphin and readers with similar problems.
