It’s been 6-years since Cam has been back to his hometown of Alba, Colorado. After leaving Alba to join the military a decade ago, Cam never expected to move home, but here he is, moving back to help a man who hates him. Cam can’t blame his father for hating him because he knows he’s at fault for his brother, Sully’s death. And now the whole town of Alba hates his guts.

Cam’s father has Alzheimer’s and left a voicemail asking Cam to return home. His older brother Xander has been caring for their dad for years and now he’ll have a helping hand. But Cam’s return isn’t welcomed by many, if anyone. Except Willow, the girl who lives next door, the girl who was Sully’s, not his, and the girl who has every right to hate him but doesn’t.

It’s complicated and messy, but Willow and Cam find themselves attached at the hip. No one wants them together, but since when do either of them care about anyone else’s opinions?

Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros is a heavy military romance full of all the small town feels. Compared to Yarros’ 2019 release—The Last Letter—this is far less emotional. I didn’t love the romance quite as much, but I still really enjoyed it. Where I felt the most emotion was with Cam and his father’s relationship. And the ending in regard to that relationship made the most emotional waves. 4/5 stars.

Thank you to Edelweiss, Entangled and Rebecca Yarros for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
