really liked it
bookshelves: fiction

I'm not sure about this book. I enjoyed it - and it was a quick read - and I found myself anxious to pick it up each day......but ultimately, it wasn't as good as I had hoped. maybe I'd even give it 3/5 stars for actual quality, but 4 stars for storyline...... It takes place in Salem, where Towner has gone to confront ghosts from her past. We get glimpses of her problems - her great aunt has just drowned, her twin died years ago, her mother is eccentric, her uncle is violent and crazy, her ex-boyfriend is a drunk..... and she has a hereditary gift of being able to "read" lace and thoughts. Or does she????
the story was pretty well developed, (maybe even over-developed?) and definitely held my interest, but I was a bit disappointed when I finished it. I think it had a lot more potential than was shown. some of the characters were not developed well, and I found the change of viewpoints/narrators kind of distracting. The more I think and write about it, the more I realize that this book was more of a "guilty pleasure" type of book - nothing I would read again, and nothing quote-worthy, and actually kind of disjointed. I'm actually surprised that it was so popular. Hmmmmmm - now I'm thinking about 3 stars......
